General Update. Sun and rain.

18 februari 2016 - Asunción, Paraguay

I promised myself I would be updating this blog regularly. Of course I knew it was never going to work out but i am stubborn enough to keep trying even if events keep accumulating.

About 10 days have already gone from my arrival. I have overcomed my terror of the 'Collectivos' (even though I keep making time-consuming mistakes every now and then) an I go every morning to my office at Guyra Paraguay.

The office is situated about 7 km from my location in the center (which normally means more than an hour of bus), close to the Botanical garden and at the side of the river Paraguay. It is a nice place to work, it is a small building surrounded by quite an extended park populated by many species of birds. There are many trees, eucaliptusses, leucaenas and even a mango which is dropping its last fruits (if you love mangos you should come in december when there are so many that people can't eat them all!). Oh and I forgot to spoil the nice picture with a military detention center 500 m further on one side and kind of slumber barrios about 1 km on the other. But this in general don't spoil the nice vibe of the location.

I like to take breaks from works and sit outside in the tree shade. My colleagues are surprised I enjoy so much this tremendous warmth (about 37 yesterday) and I imagine you can grow tired of it all if you have it for most of the year every year, but for me used to the Dutch climate feeling the sun on my skin and the warm air in my longs is a marvelous change. Warm sun warm sun sun sun.

Just one there has been a giant storm. Storms can be dangerous in Asunciòn, if it rains a lot (which is often the case) water can collect in the streets and drag stuff with it. At least that is what I understood from my colleagues which also advised me to go somewhere inside if i get caught in such a storm. It does sound like an infinite bucket of water thrown on your roof. It woke me up at about 3 in the night and although I loved to hear the rain I spent the night dreaming of floods.
